Il-Car Wash ta’ mal-pompa

Tajjeb li l-Kunsill ta’ Wied il-Għajn ivvota b’maġġoranza ta’ 6 kontra 3 għall-estenzjoni tal-pompa proposta, biex jiżdiedu car wash, ATM u addizzjonijiet oħra li skond is-sindku jofru iktar “servizzi għar-residenti”. Minkejja dan, mhux ahjar li kieku l-istess Kunsill, ħareġ kontra l-pompa kollha kemm hi? Iktar spazji miftugħha qedgħin maż-żmien jittieklu ġewwa l-irħula tagħna b’detriment għar-residenti u dawk li ġejjin warajna. Ir-rwol tal-Kunsilli Lokali f’dan il-qasam għandu jkun li jopponu dan l-izvilupp bla rażan u bla bżonn. Barra minn hekk, jeħtieġ li l-Gvern Ċentrali jimplimenta moratorium fuq il-pompi tal-petrol.

It’s positive that Marsaskala’s Council has voted against the extension of the proposed petrol station, to add a car wash, an ATM and other additions which according to the mayor, offer more services for residents, by a majority of 6 to 3. Despite this, wouldn’t it have been better if the same Council opposed the whole proposal? More open space is being taken up inside our villages, with repercussions for residents and future generations. The role of Local Councils in this regard, should be to oppose this senseless development. Moreover, it’s necessary that the Central Government implements a moratorium on petrol stations.
